Infopoints Update
I started to annotate Golf in the Year 2000 with what I call "infopoints"--little symbols to be sprinkled throughout the text, which, when clicked, yield additional information about a term or reference that might be obscure to some readers. Then I discovered that the little gif graphic I was using as my hotlinked symbol was messing up the page appearance when viewed in Internet Explorer (looks fine in FireFox, though). I'll need to work on that little problem before I proceed with the infopoints.
I learn things by researching the information I need to write the infopoints. For example--although I could make a pretty good guess at the meaning--I did not know the full signifance of the sentence in Chapter I, where Gibson narrates: "In my own case, for instance——But I must not anticipate, à nos moutons, as they say in the land of 'the darned Mounseer.'"
The phrases à nos moutons and "the darned Mounseer" have some interesting literary histories behind them, it turns out (click 'em to see for yourself).
