Better Gas Mileage? The Acetone Solution

When I filled up with gas the other night I added an ounce of acetone to the tank of my Honda Element--with a great deal of trepidation, I might note! Why? To see if this will really increase my gas mileage as a number of backyard car tinkerers claim. In fact, the great acetone debate and discussion seems to raging across the web these days, no doubt prompted by gas station sticker shock. I have a record of every tank of gas I've ever bought for the Element, which I've had for two years now. It should be a relatively simple thing to determine if I'm improving my mileage through the addition of a bit of acetone to each tankful. I'll report the results here. If you're interested in finding out more about acetone and the claims of improved gas mileage (we're talking on the order of a couple of miles more per gallon up to 25% or 30% improvement), just do a search on acetone "gas mileage" and you'll find plenty to keep you busy.

How much of improvement have you noticed ?

I started using acetone with an Ody 2000, the result are at times remarkable, been using for the last 6 months.
on one occasion, 180 KM more on 40 liters of gas.
During the warmer days, it average between 120 and 150 KM more on 40 liters of gas.
Now it seems to be doing about 90 to 120 KM more on 40 liters of gas. The weather is colder and I didn't found yet the best percentage of acetone versus gas. I also experimented using high octone gas and 87 octane.Stopped at times using acetone to see my milleage drop to where it was.

I get a higher increase in Kilometers with acetone for city driving than highway driving.
