End Daylight Saving Time
In a previous post I mentioned how I hate daylight saving time. The main thing I hate is having an hour of sleep "stolen" from me each spring, even if it is "given back" to me come fall. I also hate how manipulative it is.
I'm pleased to have discovered a web site called End Daylight Saving Time that gives some of the history of this travesty and also has a petition for ending it. (There's also a proposal there to reduce the number of time zones in the U.S., which I find slightly questionable.)
The Boston Globe did an article on daylight saving time, which also sketches the history and discusses a new book about DST, written by someone who supports it. He's quoted as saying he likes it because, "The idea of getting people to spend more time outside their houses just seems to me good social policy."
See? Pure manipulation.

Isn't there talk in Washington of extending the Daylight Savings Time? I believe I saw an article on this a few days ago.
Yep, they want to extend it two months -- one month on either end.
