Getting Off the Gadget Train Isn't Easy ...

... but "nudist Don Scharder" did it:

"I am glad I have no cell phone, no pager, no e-mail, no computer. . . Years ago, I had a home phone but I got rid of it in August 2002.

"I have washed all my clothes by hand and hung them up to dry inside or outside since August 1998. I got rid of my refrigerator in July 2001. I stopped eating cooked food in December 1998. I am an all raw-foods vegan."

Schrader says he doesn't own a TV or a car and that the last time he even rode in a car was April 7, 2001.

"I have never used a swamp cooler, fan or air-conditioner in my pleasant 12-by-14-foot apartment home since I moved in almost 17 years ago. I cross-ventilate with open doors and windows ... As far as I know, I am the most well-known, living-simply enthusiast in Albuquerque."
