Heinlein the Cynic, Among Friends
Since I recently posted about my favorite science fiction writer, Robert Heinlein, I should mention that Heinlein has made the top 10 all-time list of cynics, as decided by the members of the Cynical Web Site. According to a press release, the list "honors" those inviduals who have had "the most suspicious outlook on their fellow man." Holding first place is Ambrose Bierce; Heinlein pulls up in third place (just ahead of Mark Twain, I note). The complete list:
1. Ambrose Bierce
2. Guy Smith (the Cynical Web Site's own "headmaster")
3. Robert Heinlein
4. Mark Twain
5. H.L. Mencken
6. Oscar Wilde
7. P.J. O'Rourke
8. Laurence J. Peter
9. Dorothy Parker
10. George Bernard Shaw
