Sci-Fi Meets Jacques Cousteau
Calling Captain Nemo! Meant to comment on this the other day when it first hit the news, but maybe this will still be new to you: An Israeili inventor has developed a breathing apparatus that will allow people to breathe underwater without the need of compressed air tanks. Alon Bodner's device mimics the way fish use the dissolved air that is in water to supply their oxygen needs. His system makes use of a physical law called the "Henry Law," which deals with gas absorption in liqudis. (Go to the link for the rest of the science.) The Bodner apparatus will run off rechargeable batteries, with a one-kilo lithium battery being capable of providing a person about an hour's worth of diving time.
