Where I've Been
For the most part I disdain those blog posts in which the blogger apologizes for not having posted in a while. The fact is, for all but the blogging "stars"--the handful of bloggers with a large and loyal following who check in every day to read the latest screed--no one cares.
In my case, I just checked my logs and noticed a significant uptick in the numbers of people to this blog. I thought, well, if I'm suddenly getting more visitors, I should post something to let people know that this blog is not dead.
The lack of recent posts is due to a number of things, most of which I won't bore you with here. The biggest factor is my frustration over not being able to make changes to my parent site, Golf in the Year 2000. Plain and simple, I can't get my damn FTP program to work. I keep fiddling and fiddling with it, to no avail. And it's not the program, actually, because I've tried three or four different ones, with the same results. I can log onto the host server, but then get timed out while the server is waiting for my program to return a password (at least that's how I interpret the errors).
Once upon a time I had this same problem, and solved it by switching off the firewall that is built in to Windows XP. Now this same problem (well, it looks the same) has recurred, but this time it doesn't seem to be the firewall -- I checked, and it has remained switched off.
So, how is it I'm able to make posts to this blog? Simple: Even though it's hosted on the Golf in the Year 2000 site (the same one I cannot reach via FTP), it is updated via Blogger. And Blogger is not affected by whatever is going on on my local computer that is keeping me from FTPing into my server.
If any techie is reading this who has a suggestion for me, please advise me via a comment to this post.
