Future Perfect

Commentary and news section of the Golf In The Year 2000 web site, which includes the book of that title.

Tracking news about the site and book and commenting on speculative fiction, Victorian-era literature, technology, futurism, life extension, extropianism and ... maybe ... golf.

Wasn't the future wonderful?

The Other Book

One of the reasons I haven't been blogging lately is I've been putting my time into posting a new book--J. McCullough's other book: Golf. Containing Practical Hints, with Rules of the Game, originally published in 1899. As with Golf In the Year 2000, I believe this is the first time that the full text of the book has been published online where anyone may read it free. Here's an excerpt from McCullough's introduction:

It is only about fifteen years ago that any man travelling in England with golf clubs among his luggage was an object of no common interest and even of some suspicion to his fellow-travellers, and when they had made enquiry and ascertained the strange purpose of the leather-handled and heavy-handed sticks, they still regarded him as an amiable lunatic whose amiability was more questionable than his lunacy.

To-day--that is, fifteen years later--more golf is played than any other game.
